2013 Award Winning Best Stuffing Recipe - Sausage & Apple Stuffing

Sausage & Apple Stuffing - this is our favorite with rave reviews. 

Great anytime in the year and excellent for holiday events

10 slices bacon diced
1 lb Pork Sausage meat
2 cups chopped onions
2 cups sliced mushrooms
1 cup chopped celery
1 tsp sage leaves - dried
1 tsp thyme leaves - dried
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 lb tart apples - cored, cut in 1/2" pieces
10 cups cubed white bread - 1/2" cubes
1 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 1/2 cups chicken broth

Mix bread and parsley in large bowl.
Brown bacon in large deep skillet on medium heat.
Add sausage and brown, stirring 2-3 times.
Add remaining ingredients except broth to skillet.
Cook 5-7 minutes until apples and celery are crisp/tender.
Add all to bread/parsley mixture, toss, then add broth.

Heat oven to 350 degree F  
Grease 3 quart casserole dish.
Transfer mix to casserole dish and bake 35-40 minutes until hot and top is lightly browned.
